‘Hell is here’: Photo of elephants fleeing mob attack wins top prize at Sanctuary Wildlife Photograph Awards

Mumbai: The captivating and chilling photograph of a baby elephant and its mother escaping a mob attack in West Bengal’s Bankura district has earned its photographer, Biplab Hazra, the top award of Sanctuary’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2017.

The image, titled ‘Hell is Here’, depicts the two elephants running for their lives in the middle of the road, with the baby elephant screaming in fear.

Hazra, whose picture on wildlife was published in sanctuaryasia.com, has captioned the image as, “The heat from the fire scorches their delicate skin as mother and child attempt to flee the mob…Flaming tar balls and crackers fly through the air to a soundtrack of human laughter and shouts”.

Meanwhile, commenting on this photograph on their Facebook page, Sanctuary Asia said, “In the Bankura district of West Bengal this sort of humiliation of pachyderms is routine, as it is in the other elephant-range states of Assam, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu and more.”

“India is the world’s stronghold for the Asian elephant and boasts over 70 per cent of the global population of the species. But this achievement rings hollow as vital elephant habitats and routes continue to be ravaged, and human-elephant conflict escalates to a fatal degree,” it further said.

Meanwhile, in an interview with the New Indian Express, Hazra, who is a brick kiln owner by profession, said that the calf was somehow able to survive the “brutal” mob attack.

“I had never seen such an incident in 14 years of my wildlife photography career. All my concentration was only on clicking the photograph.” he told the daily.

The photograph was clicked State Highway 9 in West Bengal and the top Asian wildlife magazine felicitated the photographer at an event in Mumbai on Sunday.

Facebook Now Wants Your Nude Photos Important Info

Facebook Now Wants Your Nude Photos

To combat ‘revenge porn’, Facebook is now asking users to send in their nudes, to test a new anti-revenge porn technology.

A pilot program is currently underway in Australia, where one in five women aged 18-45 and one in four Indigenous Australians are victims. It appears, Facebook made the right choice to test out Australian users before a much wider and or global rollout occurs.

Australian Government, e-Safety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant said victims of “image-based abuse” would be able to censor images before posted on Facebook’s platform(s).

Grant further said, “we see many scenarios where maybe photos or videos were taken consensually at one point, but there was not any sort of consent to send the images or videos more broadly.”

According to the Daily Mail, sending your nudes to Facebook will stop the so-called ‘revenge porn’ phenomenon:

# The trial requires users to send naughty pictures to themselves via Facebook Messenger.
# Ms Grant said: ‘It would be like sending yourself your image in email, but obviously this is a much safer, secure end-to-end way of sending the image without sending it through the ether.’
# Once the image has been sent, Facebook will then ‘hash’ the image – create a digital fingerprint or link.
# Ms Grant explained: ‘They’re not storing the image, they’re storing the link and using artificial intelligence and other photo-matching technologies.
# ‘So if somebody tried to upload that same image, which would have the same digital footprint or hash value, it will be prevented from being uploaded.’
# If the technology works , the photo should never appear on Facebook.
Facebook announces measures against revenge porn

Antigone Davis, head of global safety at Facebook, said ”the safety and well-being of the Facebook community is our top priority”. And to provide such safety, Facebook wants your nude pictures.

She also added, “as part of our continued efforts to better detect and remove content that violates our community standards, we’re using image matching technology to prevent non-consensual intimate images from being shared on Facebook. These tools, developed in partnership with global safety experts, are one example of how we’re using new technology to keep people safe and prevent harm”.

We ask one simple question: What Rights Does Facebook Have to Your Photos?

In Facebook’s terms of service: “You own all of the content and information you post on Facebook”.

…but Facebook gets a “non-exclusive, transferable, sub-licensable, royalty-free, worldwide license” to your photos.

Conclusion– don’t take nudes and problem solved. Otherwise, some creepy techie in Silicon Valley along with artificial intelligence will be admiring what you do on a personal level. SkyNet called it wants your nude pictures.

The Uncomfortable Reality Behind Horrific Photo From Tamil Nadu

This extremely gut-wrenching and terrifying photo of an act of self-immolation is being shared widely on the internet.

While this visual might be unbearable to watch and we might shirk away from it, we cannot ignore the reality behind it. The picture is a stark reminder of how humanity fails us everytime.

Here is what happened:

On Monday, 27-year-old Esakkimuthu, a daily wager from Kasidharmam village near Kadayanallur in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu, along with his wife and their two daughters, came to the district collector’s office. He was there to protest against the alleged lethargy of the police and the district administration towards his complaint against a money lender.

They were waiting under a tree in front of the public grievances day meeting hall when he suddenly doused himself, his wife and children with kerosene and set themselves on fire, tightly hugging his wife and children.

The man remains in a critical condition with serious burns battling for his life while his wife and daughters succumbed to severe burn injuries.

What led to this extreme act?

Earlier this year, Esakkimuthu had taken a loan of Rs. 1.42 lakh to start a business but was being pressured to pay more interest.

The labourer, identified only as Esakimuthu, had repaid nearly double the loan but the lender was pushing for around Rs. 2 lakh more in repayments. He was also allegedly pressured by police to repay the extra interest, driving him to desperation.

The incident prompted the Tamil Nadu chief minister E Palaniswami to direct all the district collectors and police superintendents to take strict against those who charge heavy interest.

“We have started an investigation over allegations that the police and officials didn’t help the man,” Sandeep Nanduri, the top local official in Tirunelveli district told the media.

The lender has been arrested on charges of assisting suicide and breaching laws on charging exorbitant interest, Nanduri said.

It’s a deep-rooted problem

Most states have criminalised commercial moneylending. All lenders, both formal and informal, are banned from charging interest rates above 21 percent on loans.

Thousands of people with low-income, mostly farmers, are often denied loans by banks and rely on unscrupulous lenders for quick cash. Private lenders charge steep interest rates upwards of 50 percent, locking borrowers in a cycle of debt. Many use threats and force to reclaim unpaid loans.

Hundreds of farmers crippled by debt have committed suicide in recent years, especially in Tamil Nadu where a bad drought put enormous financial pressure on poor families.

Parents Charged With First Degree Murder After Rotting Son Was Found Dead On A Swing Set

Parents Charged With First Degree Murder After Rotting Son Was Found Dead On A Swing Set

It was in Iowa where a couple was charged with the murder of their four-month-old son. 20-year-old Cheyanne Harris and 28-year-old Zachary Koehn were arrested on charges of child endangerment and first-degree murder. Their son, Sterling Koehn, was found dead on a baby swing in the family’s home.

Sterling had decomposed to the point where maggots were clearly visible on his body.

So far, court records have not listed any attorneys for the couple.

Court records revealed that deputies and medics were called to the couple’s Alta Vista apartment on August 30th where they found Sterling dead on the swings.

A medical examiner determined that Sterling hadn’t had a diaper change, showered or been removed from the swing set for at least over a week. There were maggots found within his clothing and also crawling on his skin.

Upon arrival, officials found Sterling dead in a separate bedroom from where Zachary and their older child slept. An autopsy determined that the infant passed away at under seven pounds and was only 14 inches in length.

The baby was well below the fifth percentile in both size and weight. Even after the death of their child, Zachary would regularly post on Facebook with random status updates, new tattoos, and memes but with very little mention of his deceased son.

Prosecutors say that the couple tried to hide the death of their son by saying that they had checked on the boy the day before he died.

The criminal complaint stated: ‘the cause of death was a failure to provide critical care. The facts of this case go far beyond neglect and show circumstances manifesting an extreme indifference to human life.’

A conviction in Iowa of first-degree murder will result in a mandatory life sentence. An acquaintance of Zachary claims that meth ruined his life and that the relationship between the couple was ‘on and off.’

As of this writing, the two parents are being held on a 100,000 dollar cash bond.

MMA fighter says he died in the cage after heart stopped during fight, later revived by paramedics

Many prominent MMA fighters say you have to be willing to die in the cage in order to compete. On Friday, one fighter did.

Middleweight CJ Hancock, 32, said he died in the cage and needed to be revived by paramedics after collapsing to the ground during a fight at the Legacy Fighting Alliance event at Arena Theatre in Houston Friday night.

Hancock, who collapsed during the second round, said his heart stopped and he suffered kidney failure but is now “okay,” the fighter wrote in a Facebook post published late Friday night.

“Well I died tonight in the cage…. I’m okay. Thanks everyone. I’ll reply when I can,” Hancock wrote. “My heart stopped, and I had kidney failure, they did cpr and hit me with the EKG twice and brought me back.”

Hancock says doctors told him he shouldn’t fight again as a result of the scary incident.

“I’m broken, I guess I’ll just be a coach from now on,” Hancock wrote, adding he may compete in Brazilian jiu-jitsu once he’s fully healthy.

Hancock said he’s “unsure why it happened” but explains he had a hard time cutting weight in order to make the required weigh-in for the fight.

Hancock made weight at 170.5 pounds. He previously fought on the amateur level as high as 205 pounds, according to mmafighting.com.

LFA CEO Ed Soares said in a statement sent to mmafighting.com Hancock (2-3) collapsed to the ground a few seconds after he received a body kick from his opponent Charlie Ontiveros (9-5).

“It’s a very unfortunate situation where C.J. Hancock took a body kick during his fight,” Soares said in the statement. “After the kick landed, there was a few second delay, and then he collapsed in the cage. Our cutman David Maldonado immediately recognized the problem and signaled to the medical team sitting cageside. They were able to resuscitate and stabilize C.J. and took him to the hospital via ambulance where they determined he had suffered kidney failure. C.J. is currently recovering and in the company of his friends and family.”

Ontiveros was awarded a win by technical knockout as a result.

Test Your Intuition: Solve These Intuition Quizzes

Intuition is something that you cannot learn. It is something you have all your life and pushes you to make decisions on any kind of topic. Your intuition answers questions based on no logical reasoning but it acts as a gut feeling which tells you what to do or what to choose. It acts more than a gut feeling because with a gut feeling you feel a certain way towards a decision. With your intuition, instead of feeling a certain way, you know a certain thing without actually knowing the logic behind it.

So, what kind of questions could you get that would test your intuition? They won’t be based on any logic whatsoever therefore you’re going to have to trust your intuition on this. And keep in mind you may not be listening to your intuition one hundred percent of the time which is why you might get some wrong.

When Is The Right Time To Eat A Banana?

Did you know that the nutritional properties of bananas change as they ripen? Have you noticed that the taste of the banana changes as they ripen, it gets sweeter? This happens because of the enzymes contained in the bananas are progressively breaking down the starch (a long polymeric form of sugar that doesn’t taste sweet) turning it into simple sugars (disaccharides or monosaccharides which taste sweet).

Ripe Bananas

According to nutritionists, the more dark spots on the banana peel, the stronger its cancer-preventing properties are. The brown spots on the bananas are actually signs of the TNF they contain.

Moreover, a ripe banana is extremely high in numerous antioxidants, potassium, vitamin C and B. A Japanese research has found that the optimal benefits of the banana can be obtained as soon as it is fully ripened. Also, ripe bananas also boost the digestion.

Unripe Bananas (Fruits 1-3)

Unripe bananas actually have some benefits of their own, as www.onegreenplanet.org reports. These benefits include reduced sugar content when compared to ripe bananas, as well as the prevalence of probiotic bacteria aiding in proper colon maintenance.

One downside, of course, is that unripe bananas are tough on your digestive system and may cause bloating. But due to their lower sugar content, this may be an effect worth dealing with if you suffer from type 2 diabetes.
