Video shows Utah police fatally shooting man from behind as he fled

Police face no charges amid accusations of racial profiling and ‘brutal execution’ in case of Patrick Harmon, 50, who was pulled over for cycling without a light

Police in Utah fatally shot a man from behind while he was running away from officers, according to newly released footage, which has sparked accusations of racial profiling and a “brutal execution”.

Prosecutors in Salt Lake City have said officers were justified in killing Patrick Harmon, 50, who was pulled over for riding a bicycle without a light and who attempted to flee when police tried to arrest him. Police are not facing charges despite the fact that the body-camera footage captured officer Clinton Fox shouting “I’ll fucking shoot you!” from a distance before he fired three bullets into Harmon, who was running in the opposite direction.

“They just murdered him flat out,” Alisha Shaw, Harmon’s niece, told the Guardian on Thursday after watching the footage. “They are lying. There is no way they were threatened by anything. He was only trying to get away.”

Civil rights activists said the killing of Harmon was the latest example of police brutality and a prejudiced criminal justice system in the US, where officers kill black men at disproportionately high rates. Data has shown that across the country, black citizens and people of color are stopped by police and targeted for low-level offenses at higher rates than white residents, and some reports have suggested that police stop and cite black cyclists for minor infractions with much greater frequency than others.

Salt Lake officials have claimed that the killing of Harmon was legal because the officers feared for their lives, even though the video, released to local media, revealed that Harmon was not advancing toward them. Another officer said he fired his Taser at the same time that Fox shot Harmon. The footage showed the officers handcuffing Harmon as he lay on the ground face-down, groaning in pain.

The district attorney’s office claimed that Harmon said “I’ll cut you” and turned and faced officers with a knife as he was running. The video, however, raises questions about the narrative. Harmon cannot be heard making that threat and was running away from the officer, not facing him, when he was killed.

“He was scared. All he did was run,” said Adriane Harmon, another niece, who was sobbing after watching the footage for the first time Thursday. “It hurts … They said ‘I’m going to kill you’ and they shot him three times. He’s just moaning on the ground.”

At the start of the video, Harmon appeared tearful and exasperated about police attempting to arrest him. According to prosecutors, officer Kris Smith pulled him over because he saw him “ride his bicycle across all six road lanes and a median” and he didn’t have a “required red rear tail light”. The officer said he wanted to “discuss the situation” with Harmon.

The policeman eventually called for backup and determined that Harmon had an outstanding warrant for aggravated assault, according to prosecutors. Harmon appeared “emotional and distraught” and told police that he was trying to take care of his warrant, Fox testified.

Salt Lake City has previously received national praise for its “de-escalation” training, aimed at encouraging officers to communicate with people and limit confrontation and use of lethal force. The department even gives out “de-escalation awards” to recognize officers who rely on these tactics.

The death of Harmon is another reminder, activists said, that progressive policies do not stop officers from unjustly killing black Americans who do not pose a threat.

“That officer disregarded his de-escalation training,” said Lex Scott, a local Black Lives Matter organizer. “It’s just brutal. How could anyone with eyes and ears believe that that officer was justified?”

Police declined to answer questions about the case, but the chief, Mike Brown, said in a statement: “We trust the process and support the decision from district attorney Sim Gill. I believe our officers have the training and judgement and ability to make split-second decisions in dynamic situations.”

Gill added in a statement: “Officer Fox reasonably believed deadly force was necessary to prevent death or serious bodily injury to himself and/or others and therefore his use of deadly force was ‘justified’.”

Antoinette Harmon, a 54-year-old sister, said the family grew up in St Louis, Missouri, but later moved to Utah, where they often experienced racism and prejudice. The family hadn’t seen Patrick Harmon for several years since a funeral for one of his brothers – a death that hit him hard, said Antoinette. She said her brother may have been struggling with mental illness, and the family believes he may have been homeless at one point.

“The police are going to stick together no matter if it’s wrong or right,” she added. “They don’t care about black lives.”

Police are rarely charged and almost never convicted for use of force in the US, where the law generally allows officers to use lethal force if they claim that they perceived a threat.

“He was just being profiled,” said Shaw. “Why do we have to fight so hard for justice? All we want is to be treated equal as a black person instead of being profiled and looked at as if we were a threat.”

Antionette said her brother was “goofy and fun to be around” and helped her raise her children. “He did everything he could. He was like a protector. He made sure that nobody hurt us.”

A new video has been making the rounds of social media, and though the video is a little violent, the story behind it is just priceless.

In the video, a girl in a dress is attacking a boy in a violent manner, and at a couple points even knees the unfortunate youth in the face. The two have not been identified, as they are minors, but it happened at Sonoma Valley High School in California.

The video was uploaded to the Facebook page of Brazilian Pro Jiu Jitzo Champion, Kit Dale, after he received her permission to do so. Since then, the video has gone viral by generating more than 17 million views.

The story behind the video explains that the girl is a student at a nearby high-school where she was cyber-bullied by the boy in the video. The girl, who is believed to have had some mixed martial arts training, tracked down her bully and gave him a lesson about bullying that he wouldn’t soon forget.

The girl was reported to have been suspended for her violent response to the bully, and the boy suffered from a black by and bruised ego. Kit Dale told ABC-7,

Reactions to the incident have been heated on both sides, with some condemning the actions of the young girl, and saying that violence never solves anything.

Others, who supported the girls actions are saying that the girl did not do enough. Many of these commentators identify themselves as either current victims of bullies, or recounting stories of how they were bullied when they were younger. What do you think about how this girl solved her bully problem?

WARNING: This video is a little violent…

Former President Barack Obama worked hard for the eight years he was in the White House to distance himself from his self-professed mentor, communist Frank Marshall Davis.

In Obama’s book, “Dreams From My Father,” he refers to his mentor as only “Frank.” In an audiobook version that was made at a later date, “Frank” was taken out completely.Obama explains that the portion in his book about “me having a conversation with a close friend of my maternal grandfather, a close friend of gramps, a black man from Kansas, named Frank.” This was the same time a well-known poet moved to Hawaii and lived there, named Frank Marshall Davis.

Obama continued, “And so I have a discussion with him about the kinds of frustrations I’m having, and he sorts of schools me that I should get used to these frustrations.”

In his highly controversial material Obama describes how his view of the world as a teenager was. Obama said, “Any distinction between good and bad whites held negligible meaning,” basically saying all whites are racist.

Anyone who felt that his view of the world was wrong, or said he was just being “paranoid,” was the equivalent to them calling Obama the n-word.

Frank Marshall Davis was a former member of the Communist Party USA, who managed to accumulate a 600-page dossier of his activities from the FBI as well as place him on the bureau’s “security index,” which means he could have been arrested at any time.

Marshall’s poetry included one lovely passage where he called Jesus the n-word, as well.

Obama should know, anything can be recovered on the internet. Obama was on his book tour in 1995 at the Cambridge Public Library when the video was taken. He not only explains who “Frank” is, he talks about how his mentor “schooled” him about how much white people are racist.

Angry Mom Accidentally Texts 35-Year-Old Guy Instead Of Her Daughter, And Things Escalate Quickly

A 35-year-old man from Wisconsin was enjoying his day off from work recently when a text suddenly appeared in his inbox. “Hunny please grab milk and lunch meet on your way home,” read the message. Given that the man, who goes by the name of velakskin, was already at home, and given that he didn’t recognize the number, he figured that the sender had obviously contacted the wrong person. Despite repeatedly trying to convince them of this however, the sender refused to believe that they weren’t talking to Jess, their own 18-year-old daughter. And as you can see below, things escalated pretty quickly…

A student teacher has spoken about how she got a vibrator stuck up her backside during sex. Emma Phillips, a mother of one from Wallasey, Merseyside, first thought boyfriend Lee had hidden the vibrator under a pillow as a prank. But then when she pressed down on her stomach she felt a buzzing inside her. They tried to remove it using a fork handle and barbecue prongs but all efforts failed. She was rushed to hospital to have the sex toy taken out and now Emma wants to warn people not to be afraid of getting help in embarrassing situations. Emma, 24, said: ‘We were looking around the bed in case it had fallen out. ‘When I leaned on my stomach I could feel it vibrating – it was stuck low down and at one point was even wedged behind my hip.’

She added: ‘For a while Lee was suggesting all kinds of wonderful options. ‘He tried a kitchen fork handle, which we won’t be using again, and said he could feel it at one point but that it was too far up – it was a goner. ‘He tried barbecue prongs too but after a certain point – after an hour of trying – we knew were going to have to go to hospital. We were both a bit shocked.’

After initially seeing the funny side Emma said that they quickly realised that she’d need medical help. Emma said: ‘We’d both been drinking the night before so we couldn’t drive. I had to make the most embarrassing call to the ambulance at 7am. ‘The call handler said ‘tell me exactly what the problem is’ so I had to tell him.’

During the 45-minute journey to Wrexham Maelor Hospital in Wrexham, North Wales, Emma was perched on one of the seats and was hurried into a room for observations. Emma said: ‘At that point it was just more surreal than anything. I didn’t feel much pain at that point – I was in too much shock.’

Doctors carried out an x-ray to work out where the still-buzzing vibrator was and realised it was too high up and would be too painful for them to manually extract it while she was awake. Emma said: ‘I think at that point it started getting quite serious. The doctors were really good – they all moved quite quickly and were so reassuring telling me they saw it quite often which was quite a relief. ‘At first we were jokey about it but then realised it wasn’t much of a joke especially when there was talk of going through my stomach if they couldn’t get it.’

As she was being wheeled to theatre doctors told Emma if they couldn’t extract it rectally they would have to go through the bowel and take some out which could mean at least six months with a colostomy bag. Emma said: ‘I think before that I thought of it as just a little operation to get it out, I still wasn’t taking it that seriously.

‘When he said that – that only when I woke up would I know whether they would have to cut me open – it was really scary.’ At 12pm Emma underwent the minute-and-a-half surgery which involved placing a camera down her throat and the surgeon pressing on her stomach before manually extracting it. Doctors offered her the toy as a keepsake but she declined.

She was discharged at around 6.30pm before tentatively making her way home to see her two-year-old daughter. Emma said: ‘My daughter was staying with my mum and dad as I stayed at Lee’s the night before.

‘I wasn’t going to tell them but then I was going into surgery I knew we were going to have to say something so I told my mum the real reason. ‘I just took some painkillers and was told not to use stuff like that again until I was ready. I’ve learnt that I’ll need to be a bit more careful in the future. ‘Lee’s not been scarred by it – he just thinks it’s funny. I think he should have one up his bum and take one for the team.’

Emma now wants to raise awareness and urge anyone in a similar predicament to seek medical attention. Emma said: ‘We weren’t going to do anything about it because of the embarrassment – there’s a big taboo about it – but we knew we needed help. ‘I want to say a massive thankyou to the ambulance crew and Wrexham Hospital staff who were really good, really reassuring and non-judgmental. ‘There is a big taboo about this, but it really isn’t a big deal. ‘You hear about people becoming really ill or even dying because they’re too embarrassed to get help – I would hate that to happen to someone.’ A Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board spokesman said: ‘While we cannot comment on individual cases, we’re very pleased to hear that the lady in question was happy with the treatment she received while in our care. ‘We would always urge people to exercise the utmost care and caution to prevent any unfortunate or potentially dangerous repercussions, and to seek the right care if any accidents occur.’

Man who threatened ‘Las Vegas’ style shooting arrested after long I-5 chase

COWLITZ COUNTY, Wash. – Authorities arrested a retired military man, who they said suffers from PTSD, on Wednesday after he threatened to commit a “Las Vegas” style shooting and led them on a nearly 100-mile chase.

Christopher James Bleavins, 35, of Lakewood, Wash., fled Joint Base Lewis McChord Wednesday afternoon and sped off in a Red Mazda after he was approached by military police, according to Charlie Rosenzweig, spokesman for the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office. JBLM police initially pursued Bleavins but Washington State Patrol soon took over the chase southbound on Interstate 5.

At milepost 58, about 60 miles south of JBLM, Bleavins collided with a semi-truck but continued to drive away at a high rate of speed. The truck driver was not hurt, Rosenzweig said.

WSP ended its pursuit at the Cowlitz/Lewis County Line, shortly after the collision.

Castle Rock police then spotted Bleavins driving faster than 100 mph about 10 miles south of the county line.

Soon after Castle Rock police engaged in the chase, Cowlitz County deputies took over the pursuit. In several attempts to get away, Bleavins tried to crash into a deputy’s patrol car, as well as other vehicles on the busy freeway. Bleavins would slow down to 45 mph, swerve in front of other vehicles across all three lanes, then speed back up to 100 mph, Rosenzweig said.

At milepost 33, Bleavins crashed into another car, which caused him to lose control of his vehicle. Bleavins’ Mazda spun off I-5 and landed up against a railroad track base. He then exited the car but deputies were able to take him into custody.

Bleavins and the driver of the other car both suffered minor cuts on their heads, Rosenzweig said.

The driver of the other car told KGW she was in the left lane coming around a curve when she first saw Bleavins driving on the shoulder a few cars behind her. She said she tried to move into the middle lane so he could get off the shoulder, and that’s when they collided.

“I spun around a couple times before landing in the left shoulder,” she said in a message to KGW. “He was over by the tracks on the other side of the road with cops blocking traffic and pointing guns at him by the time I could see anything because of the spin.”

After deputies brought Bleavins into custody, they determined he was not armed. However, they haven’t determined whether he has access to firearms.

Bleavins was booked in the Cowlitz County jail on charges of first-degree assault, hit-and-run, reckless endangerment and eluding police. He is being held without bail.

Woman has been caught on camera while kicking dog inside elevator

AVENTURA, Fla. – A South Florida woman has been arrested after surveillance video inside an elevator in Aventura showed her repeatedly kicking and abusing a small dog, authorities announced on Thursday.

Police said the incident happened Sept. 20 inside an elevator at Artech Condominiums at 2950 NE 188th St.

Police said employees at the building saw the surveillance video and notified police.

Detectives identified Keevonna Wilson, 24, as the woman in the video and arrested her Sept. 26 on an animal cruelty charge.

“There’s no excuse at all to do that to a small innocent animal. None,” Aventura police Sgt. Chris Goranitis said.

According to an arrest report, Wilson was upset with her dog because she went to the bathroom in the elevator.

“You never take it out on an animal. That’s horrible,” neighbor Paula Riordan said.

The dog, Chasity, was removed by Miami-Dade Animal Services investigators and received medical treatment.

According to the dog’s medical report that was taken Sept. 27, the dog appeared to generally be in good health, but appeared to be in pain when her abdomen and lower back were touched.

The report stated that the dog had bruises on her abdominal area and the outside part of her ears.

Miami-Dade County Animal Services spokeswoman Lilian Bohorquez said in an email that the dog is being cared for at a Miami-Dade Animal Services-approved foster home.

Once Miami-Dade County Animal Services is legally granted custody of Chasity, they will place her up for adoption.

Local 10 News reporter Michael Seiden reached out to Wilson, but she stopped responding to his text messages once he identified himself.
